“BAT” (Basic Attention Token) is a new blockchain digital advertising platform token. The token is paid to users for viewing ads, thereby increasing the effectiveness of ads for advertisers.

The “Brave” browser provides such an opportunity: the user views ads in this browser and receives a reward in the form of a BAT token for this. Advertisers, in turn, can target their ads more precisely, maximizing audience engagement while weeding out scammers and abusers.

“BAT” is the currency of the advertising ecosystem. It moves between those who order ads, those who publish it, and those who watch it. Advertising customers pay for their campaigns with BAT tokens. Advertisers receive only a small portion, while 70% goes to users. There is no place in this formula for intermediaries who only inflate the cost of advertising.

BAT was founded in 2017. Its ICO has become one of the fastest in history. The total capitalization of the platform grew by $35 million in just a minute. Today, the “Brave Rewards” attention-based advertising program is available in most countries around the world.

BAT was developed by Brendan Eich and Brian Bondy. Both of them have significant achievements in the creation of browsers. Brendan Eich is the founder and CTO of Mozilla, the inventor of JavaScript, and one of the creators of “Mozilla Firefox”. Brendan is currently the CEO of “Brave Software, Inc.”. Brian Bondy is a software engineer who has worked at Mozilla, “Corel Corporation”, “Khan Academy”. Brian is currently the CTO of Brave and “Basic Attention Token”.

The main purpose of BAT is to serve as a means of payment for launching advertising campaigns in “Brave Ads”. At the moment, the entire advertising budget must be paid in BAT, which advertisers can get on a variety of third-party sites. From this, Brave takes a small commission for itself, and the rest goes to publishers and users.

The ecosystem of BAT and Brave Browser is distinguished by the ability to award rewards (tips) to users who are not registered on the network. This applies to both individual websites and individual Twitter users. Such users will someday decide to register on the platform and after that they will receive the accumulated funds.
