Marlin is an open source project that aims to extend P2P platforms by optimizing peer-to-peer communications and providing a high-performance, programmable network infrastructure for DeFi and Web 3.0. Marlin claims to be a trusted P2P network designed for performance and security.

Marlin is a product of the developers of Siddhartha, Prateesh and Roshan, who have extensive experience in P2P networks. Siddhartha, with experience at Microsoft and Adobe, was responsible for the development of Zilliqa, the first high-performance sharded blockchain. Ratish is a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), specializing in computer networks. Roshan is one of the developers of the “Boost C++ Libraries”.

Former researchers from the Ethereum Foundation, winners of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) and developers with experience in Facebook, Cisco and Bosch are also working on this project, as well as the former CEO of Bittorrent and professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Princeton University.

Marlin is one of the few Layer 0 projects focused on network layer optimization. Marlin is widely used in the decentralized web, as any P2P application relies on a network between distributed nodes to operate.

Thus, Marlin does not depend on the blockchain. It offers gateways built for multiple Layer 1 and Layer 2 platforms. Other scaling solutions have to sacrifice either performance, decentralization, or security. Enhancements at the network layer are not subject to such limitations.

Marlin uses the POND token. POND is a standard ERC-20 token contract with a total supply of $10 billion.

Built on top of Ethereum, the correct execution of Marlin smart contracts is protected by a network of Ethereum nodes.

Because this is a Layer 0 project and, in accordance with the ideas of the community, MPOND (another Marlin token) is distributed among token holders of various Layer 1 platforms using the “FlowMint” mechanism. POND is then earned by converting MPOND to POND, in addition to earning POND as a premium for MPOND at “Marlin Metanodes”. MPOND to POND is converted at the rate of 1,000,000 POND for 1 MPOND.

POND token holders have the right to vote on management decisions, the use of funds and the distribution of network resources.
